LWC Basketball to host Cumberlands today

The men's basketball team (receiving votes in national poll) and women's basketball team (ranked No. 12 in national poll) continue conference play this afternoon at Biggers Sports Center facing Cumberlands (Ky.) beginning at 2pmCT with the women's matchup followed by the men's matchup at 4 p.m. CT.

The Blue Raiders women's basketball team (15-3, 4-1 MSC) had no problem against Pikeville (Ky.), defeating the Bears 79-52 on Jan. 11. Reagan Turner led the way in scoring with 22 points, as DeAsia Outlaw stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks.



Turner leads LWC on offense averaging 19.1 points per game, as she's scored 20 or more points in five straight games. Outlaw carries heavy weight on the defensive end of the floor for Lindsey Wilson, holding team leads in rebounds per game (7.4), steals per game (2.4), and blocks per game (2.2). J'Nayah Hall and Jynea Harris each managed double-digit scoring performances in the win over Pikeville, with Harris averaging 10.2 points per game and Hall with a 10.8 points per game average.

The Cumberlands women's basketball team (15-3, 3-2 MSC) tasted defeat at the hands of No. 3-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) 79-68 on the road Thursday night.

This season, the Patriots rank second in the NAIA DI in total rebound margin (13.2) thanks in part to Carla Covane who is averaging a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game. Vilma Covane is scoring the ball at a team-best 13 points per game average, including scoring 24 points on 12-of-15 shooting and grabbing 14 rebounds against Campbellsville. Silvia Veloso leads the way dishing out 2.9 assists per game, while ranking second in the NAIA DI with a 4.2 steals per game average.

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team (13-6, 2-3 MSC) completed an upset victory over No. 4-ranked Pikeville 80-69 on Jan. 11. Reece Brooks led the scoring with 28 points, while Kel Stotts, Malik Hart, and Matthew Eldridge all chipped in double-digit scoring performances as well.

This season, Brooks serves as the anchor for the Blue Raiders as he holds team leads in points per game (20), assists per game (5.1), and steals per game (1.5). Brooks currently ranks fifth in the NAIA DI in total assists (98) and total scoring (380) while ranking fourth in total three-pointers made (59) all while shooting 41% from behind the arc. As a team, the Blue Raiders rank fourth in the NAIA DI in three-pointers made (203) while shooting 38.1%. Payton Cundiff leads the deep ball shooting for LWC, as his 43% is the best on the team.

The No. 16-ranked Cumberlands men's basketball team (14-4, 4-1 MSC) took care of Campbellsville 84-63 on Thursday night.

The Patriots have garnered high quality play from Tevin Olison, who leads the team in points per game (14.6), assists per game (2.7), and steals per game (1). Caleb Taylor controls play in the paint for Cumberlands, as he leads his team in rebounds per game (11.1) and blocks per game (1). Taylor is grabbing 4.3 offensive boards a game, which ranks atop the NAIA DI. As a team, UC is shooting 41% from behind the arc led by Ethan Snapp, who ranks second in the NAIA DI with 54% shooting from deep.

Live video and live stats will be available for both games. The women's game is set to begin at 2pmCT followed by the men's game at 4pmCT at Biggers Sports Center.
