LWC Women's Basketball defeats Pikeville 79-52 Saturday

The No. 14-ranked Lindsey Wilson (KY) women's basketball team defeated Pikeville (KY) 79-52 in a Mid-South Conference matchup Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (15-3, 4-1 MSC) had four players in double figures, led by Reagan Turner who scored a game-high 22 points. DeAsia Outlaw recorded a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. J'Nayah Hall added 18 points while Jynea Harris scored 13.

Lindsey Wilson outshot the Bears (13-7, 3-3 MSC) 43.4 percent to 34.5 percent. The Blue Raiders outrebounded Pikeville 51-33 and held a 32-18 edge in points in the paint.



Harris scored the first five points for Lindsey Wilson as they jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the first quarter. Trailing 6-5, the Blue Raiders went on a quick 4-0 scoring run to take the lead 9-6 with 5:40 to play in the quarter. After a Pikeville three pointer tied the game, Lindsey Wilson ended the first quarter on an 11-3 run to lead 20-12,

Harris led the way in the first quarter with nine points while Hall added seven. Lindsey Wilson shot 50 percent from the field in the quarter and connected on 2-of-4 shots from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders limited the Bears to just 33 percent shooting in the opening quarter.

Pikeville began the second quarter with a quick 4-1 run to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 21-16. The Blue Raiders then went on a 16-2 run that lasted over six minutes to increase their lead to 37-18. The Bears scored four of the final six points in the first half as Lindsey Wilson led 39-22.

Harris led all scorers in the first half with 13 points while Outlaw was also in double figures in with 10. The Blue Raiders shot 43.2 percent from the field in the half and limited Pikeville to a 29.6 field goal percentage.

Lindsey Wilson opened the second half with a 12-5 run increasing its lead to 51-27 with 4:52 to play in the third quarter. The two teams traded baskets for the remaining of the quarter as the Blue Raiders took a 60-34 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Blue Raiders started the fourth quarter scoring six of the first eight points in the quarter as their lead increased to 66-36. Both teams traded buckets for the remainder of the fourth quarter as Lindsey Wilson came away with the 79-52 victory.

Pikeville had three players score double digits led by Brianna Burbridge who scored a team-high 16 points. Mary Englert and Sierra Feltner were the other two Bears in double figures with 13 points each.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Saturday, January 18 against Cumberlands in a MSC matchup at 2pmCT at Biggers Sports Center.
