ACJE Cowan says prepare now for coming heavy rains

By Adair County Judge Executive Gale Cowan

After all the rain we have had, and expecting another three inches the end of this week, please be aware of your surroundings. Roads are washing out. The pictures with this article represent what is being seen.

A lady called 911 to report a hole in the road in her community and said the hole wasn’t there that morning. That hole held almost two dump truck loads of rock.

We were notified of this about 3:30 in the afternoon and I'm happy to report the road was passable again by dark. Proud of our road crew!

Again, be aware of your surroundings as we expect more rain this week.

Keep an eye out for holes in roadways, water over roadways, etc! If you see something that needs to be checked out, call 911, the Adair County Judges Office 270-384-4703, or your Magistrate! But please report it. Turn around, don’t drown!

More rain expected, report any road problems

2020-01-08 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Adair County Judge Executive Gale Cowan.
This Ray Abrell Road damage was reported by a driver who said there was no hole in the road in the morning, and at 3:30pm it was there. Two dump trucks full of rock and work by the Adair County Road Department made the road passable again before dark. Among those pictured are Road Foreman Barry Hamlett, John Denton, Chris Rowe and Phillip Cowan, driving the truck. Keep an eye out for holes in roadways, water over roadways, etc., as more rain is expected! If you see something that needs to be checked out, call 911, the Adair County Judges Office 270-384-4703, or your Magistrate. Remember to turn around, don't drown when you see water over the road.
