LWC Basketball kicks off 2020 at Life on Saturday

By Christopher Coombs

The No. 15- ranked Lindsey Wilson women and the No. 19 men's basketball teams are set to travel to Life (GA) on Saturday for Mid-South Conference action as they open the 2020 portion of their schedules.

Tip-off is slated for 1pmCT for the women and 3pmCT for the men at the Eagles Nest, 1266 Barclay Cir, Marietta, Georgia.

The women (11-3, 0-1 MSC) return to action for the first time since December 19 when they downed Mobile (Ala.) 65-58 on the road. A trio of Blue Raiders scored in double digits as Reagan Turner paced the effort with a game-high 25 points.

Life (7-5, 0-2 MSC) is back on the court after last defeating Fisk (Tenn.) 66-62. Tierra Tullis recorded a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards in the win. The Running Eagles two conference losses come at the hands of (RV) Pikeville (Ky.) and No. 7-ranked Shawnee State (Ohio).

The meeting is the 10th between the two programs as LWC holds a 7-2 all-time record. Last season the Blue Raiders split the two regular-season tilts before picking up their second win over the Running Eagles with a 77-70 win in the MSC Tournament Quarterfinals.

Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. CT.

The men (12-3, 1-0 MSC) are riding a season-high four-game winning streak following a 92-89 double-overtime win at Martin Methodist (Tenn.) on Monday. Reece Brooks scored a Lindsey Wilson career-high 28 points in the win, including hitting 3-pointers at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime and at the end of the second overtime to produce the game-winner.

Life (9-6, 0-2 MSC) is looking to snap a six-game losing streak after opening the season with nine consecutive wins. Statistically, the Running Eagles have struggled defensively during the losing stretch. Life allowed just 60.4 points per game in its nine wins while allowing 77.3 points in the six losses. Life is coming off an 84-54 setback at No. 19-ranked Dalton State (Ga.) on December 29.

This marks the 21st matchup between the two programs. Last season the Blue Raiders won both meetings in the regular season, but the Running Eagles defeated LWC in the MSC Tournament 75-67. Life leads the all-time series 14-6.

Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
