Letter: Hurt property

Martha Berry writes:
I hate to see the Hurt property be built on. It was nice to have a wooded lot so close to the Square. If the weeds were cleaned out but the trees left alone, it would be a beautiful spot. I love the idea of the area being made into a city park.

On a related subject: is the house on the Historic Preservation list. If not, it should be. The Field house is, why not the Hurt property? --Martha Berry

Martha, you are thinking right along with the Mayor and City Council - preservation and restoration. It's a Civil War era home and over the weeks and months ahead, grants will be applied for and goals and plans will be firmed up. It is a project that will take years but has the potential to be as important to Columbia's future as Central Park is to New York City. - LW
