LWC Men's Soccer continues playoff run against Missouri Valley

Thanks to a golden goal by Bruno Henrique in the 99th minute against UC Merced (CA), the Blue Raider men's soccer team continues their playoff run this evening as they will face Missouri Valley in the NAIA National Tournament quarterfinals at 3:30pmCT. This marks the 12th time in program history the Blue Raiders have made an appearance in the quarterfinals, where they have accumulated a 10-1-0 record in the match.



For Lindsey Wilson (15-3-1) this season, the trio of Henrique, Akean Shackleford, and Oscar Dueso has accumulated a staggering 110 of the teams 171 total points. Shackleford serves as the offensive anchor, leading the team with 21 goals, eight assists, 50 points, 97 total shots, and 46 shots on goal. Shackleford currently ranks in the NAIA top 15 in six individual categories. Dueso has netted 14 goals and passed out six assists for 34 points, while firing 67 total shots with 32 being on goal. Henrique has tallied two or more points in three of the last four matches and has scored 10 goals and six assists for 26 points this season. On defense, goalkeeper David Coffey has notched 70 saves, allowed 15 goals, and garnered a 12-1-0 overall record.

Missouri Valley (15-6-0) has made an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament three straight years and has fallen in the National Championship game the past two season. This season, Ruben Jimenez and Dominic Newton headline as a dynamic offensive duo for the Vikings. Jimenez and Newton are tied for the team lead in goals with 11, while Jimenez holds the team lead in points with 28 and Newton trails close behind in second with 26. Jimenez and Newton have each fired over 50 shots apiece, with Newton leading with 35 shots on goal and Jimenez following close behind with 29. Luka Gluscevis has dished out a team high seven assists, with one coming in the last match against Mobile (Ala.). Goalkeeper Andrej Vidali has gathered 64 saves, allowed 23 goals, and accumulated a 1.18 goals against average en route to a 13-5-0 record.
