LWC Men's soccer faces UC Merced tonight in NAIA 2nd Round By Brady Budke The No. 5-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team continues the pursuit for the 2019 NAIA National Championship on Monday with its second round matchup against UC Merced (CA) at 8:30pmCT at the Orange County Great Park Soccer Stadium in Irvine, California. The winner of the match faces the winner of No. 4-seeded Mobile (AL) and Missouri Valley in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. The Blue Raiders (14-3-1) have a 52-15-6 all-time record at the NAIA National Championship and have advanced to the quarterfinals 11 times in program history. Lindsey Wilson has never been ranked fifth entering the tournament. Lindsey Wilson reached the second round after defeating John Brown (Ark.) 4-1 on Nov. 23 at Blue Raider Stadium. Bruno Henrique scored twice for the Blue Raiders as Alexander Koziolek and Rainer De Jesus also scored for LWC. Oscar Dueso picked up three assists while Neville Morgan recorded one. David Coffey tallied five saves in the match. The Blue Raiders rank eighth nationally in shots per game with 19.5. Akean Shackleford leads the team with 47 points on the season and his 20 goals are the 10th most in the NAIA. Dueso has recorded 13 goals and six assists so far this season. Shackleford ties with Wendel Gabriel and Morgan for most assists on the team (7). UC Merced (16-3-2) returns to action after tying with Corban (Ore.) 1-1 and advances to the second round after going 6-5 in PKs on November 23. UC Merced only recorded five shots in comparison to Corban's 19. Andres Lua scored the lone goal for the Bobcats. Marco Sobrevilla recorded three saves in the match. The Bobcats have scored 59 goals and recorded 55 assists this season. Marcos Ceballos leads the team in points (35) and goals (16). Lua has scored 11 goals along with tallying four assists to total 26 points. Bryan Henriquez Rivera leads the team with 11 assists, while also scoring seven goals of his own. Sobrevilla has recorded 51 saves and six shutouts to lead the Bobcats from the goalkeeper position. The meeting between Lindsey Wilson and UC Merced will be the first ever between the two programs.
