LWC women's soccer defeats Spring Arbor 1-0 Saturday

The No. 8-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team defeated Spring Arbor (Mich.) 1-0 during the 2019 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round at Blue Raider Stadium on Saturday evening.

Flavia Laich scored the lone goal of the game during the 46th minute. Just 44 seconds into the second half, Mayu Satoh sent a cross into the penalty area and found a waiting Laich who took a touch before scoring from just outside the six-yard box. The goal was the eventual game-winner.



The Blue Raiders (16-3-1) and Spring Arbor (9-5-6) equaled each other in shots with 14 as Lindsey Wilson held a slight 8-7 advantage in shots on goal.

Jovana Ivanovic picked up her fifth win of the season in goal for LWC as she posted her second clean sheet of the season and the 15th of her career.

Lindsey Wilson advance to the 2019 NAIA National Championship Second Round at the final site in Orange Beach, Alabama where they will face No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan. The match is scheduled for 4pmCT on Monday, Dec 2 at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

The Blue Raiders are 14-2-1 all-time in the round of 16 as they reach the postseason point of the season for the second straight season and the 18th time in program history.
