LWC men's soccer takes 2019 MSC Tournament Championship By Christopher Coombs Bowling Green, KY - The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team captured the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship as they defeated Life (GA) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Jim Ross Field. With the win, Lindsey Wilson (13-3-1) clinches the conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament which begins next weekend at host sites around the NAIA. The tournament field is scheduled to be announced on Monday. Akean Shackleford scored the lone goal in the game for Lindsey Wilson. Life (13-4) outshot the Blue Raiders 18-12 while Lindsey Wilson held a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. In the 81st minute, Amin Fernouchi played a ball in front of the net for Shackleford who took a touch before burying the scoring chance into the goal, breaking the 0-0 match score. Life had the best scoring chance of the two teams in the first half. In the 43rd minute, Mattheus Brandao fired a shot that was turned away by the Blue Raider goalkeeper David Coffey where Thierry Jules fired the rebound off the post. Life totaled 12 shots in the first half while holding Lindsey Wilson to just three. In the 48th minute, Luciano Diaz nearly put Life in front 1-0 when his shot looked like it was going to trickle into the goal, however it hit off the lower-left corner post. Coffey finished the night with three saves in goal for Lindsey Wilson. The MSC Tournament title is the 14th for the Blue Raiders as they accomplish the feat for the second straight season. Lindsey Wilson learns its opening-round opponent on Monday, Nov. 18, as the NAIA releases the tournament field during its selection show at Noon CT on the NAIA Facebook page.
