LWC Women's Soccer captures the program's 18th title

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Mayu Satoh scored a golden goal in the games 109th minute, during the second overtime period, of the Mid-South Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Finals at Jim Ross Field to capture the programs 18th title.

Satoh's strike would crash off the goalkeeper's hands high into the air before breaking the goal line for the score. Alicia Thoresen picked up her second assist of the afternoon on the play.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson (15-3-1) clinches the conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament which begins next weekend at host sites around the NAIA. The tournament field is scheduled to be announced on Monday.

The Mid-South Conference Play of the Year, Sina Cavelti, scored the first goal of the contest - her sixth of the tournament -- during the 11th minute to give LWC an early 1-0 lead. Alicia Thoresen played a through ball to Cavelti who then dribbled to the end line before firing a shot that deflected off the hands of Cumberlands goalkeeper before crashing into the goal.

Cumberlands leveled the score at 1-1 when Emily Willoughby struck from just inside the 18-yard box during the matches 18th minute. Shara Randez picked up the helper.

The second half was all Cumberlands as they held the Blue Raiders to just one shot while Cumberlands managed four shots on goal, all blocked away by Jovana Ivanovic. The Patriots managed 11 shots in the half.

Cumberlands would continue to assert their will on the Blue Raiders in the first overtime period as they tacked on five more shots while limiting LWC to no attempts.

Lindsey Wilson would manage just ten shots, three on goal as the Patriots pushed the pace in the contest blasting away 30 shots, ten of which were on goal.

Ivanovic stood tall in goal, stopping nine shots across the 109 minutes of action.

The MSC Tournament title is the program's seventh straight. Lindsey Wilson has won 18 of 20 MSC Tournament titles since joining the Mid-South in 2000.

Lindsey Wilson learns its opening-round opponents on Monday, Nov. 18, as the NAIA releases the tournament field during its selection show at 11 a.m. CT on the NAIA Facebook page.
