LWC Wrestling hosts NAIA Challenge Duals on Saturday

The No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team is set to host the NAIA Challenge Duals this Saturday at the Holloway Health and Wellness Center. Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. CT.

In total, the Blue Raiders welcome 10 programs to the campus of Lindsey Wilson College as LWC will wrestle two separate squads at the event. The duals will feature seven programs that are ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA National Poll.

Competing is No. 3 Marian (IN), No. 7 Cumberlands (KY), No. 9 Southeastern (MO), No. 19 Williams Baptist (MO), (RV) Jamestown (ND), (RV) West Virginia Tech, Lincoln (IL), Thomas More (KY), Bluefield (WV) and Lyon (AR). In total, the rosters bolster 34 ranked NAIA Wrestlers including three of the No. 1 ranked wrestlers of their respective weight classes.



Lindsey Wilson's own Brandon Reed is No. 1 at heavyweight as Cumberlands' Tres Leon is No. 1 at 157-pounds and Southeastern's Ethan Owen is No. 1 at 141-pounds. All three wrestlers are apart of the Mid-South Conference.

Lindsey Wilson takes on Lincoln, Lyon, Jamestown and West Virginia Tech as the JV squad will face Jamestown, Thomas More, Williams Baptist and Cumberlands. Both teams will wrestle at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Health and Wellness Center.

Cagen Wallace (No. 12 at 125 NAIA), Brock Whorton, Rickey Garcia, Latrell Davis (No. 2 at 149), Derrick Smallwood (No. 6 at 157), Bryce Hoffman, Trajan Hurd (No. 6 at 174), Trevor Lawson (No. 17 at 184), Avery Buckman (No. 17 at 197) and Reed (No. 1 at Heavyweight) will all compete for Lindsey Wilson's first team. On the JV squad will be Devon Casebolt, Sam Bacon, Austin Ramsey, Alex Caldwell, Joe Koontz (No. 17 at 157), Cameron Butler, Johnny Lee, Cameron Ward, Jonathan Bowling, Thomas Ray, Kohl Dodd (No. 20 at 197), Carlos Figueroa, Raynel Brown (No. 15 at Heavyweight) and Lawrence Malala.

In total, 58 duals will take place throughout the day. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 10amCT at the Holloway Health and Wellness Center.

There were 11 teams from colleges in the southeast, five of them are nationally ranked: Marian 3, Lindsey Wilson 4, Cumberlands 7, Southeastern 9 and Williams Baptist 19. The Holloway Center was crowded with as many as 500 people at the height of the action.
