Chowning Art Shop Christmas Open House, Sat 9 Nov

By Ariel C. Emberton

Campbellsville University's Chowning Art Shop, located at 503 N. Columbia Ave., Campbellsville, KY, is holding its annual Christmas Open House on Saturday, November 9, 2019, from 10amET until 4pmET.

Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy fine artwork, according to Terri Miller, president of Campbellsville University's Patrons of the Visual Arts.

The open house will feature "one of a kind art at great prices," Miller said. They decorate the shop for Christmas each year and have more seasonal items offered. "A wonderful display of holiday and regular items from our talented students, alumni and faculty" will be available at the art shop according to Miller.

The art shop is named after Dr. John Chowning, former vice president for church and external relations, who now is serving as executive assistant to the president of the university for government, community and constituent relations, and his family.

The Chowning Art Shop has been open for business since August 2012 and there has been a Christmas Open House every year since then.

The Chowning Art Shop is open from 11amET to 2pmET Tuesday through Saturday with volunteer artists, whose work is on display and those who are members of the Patrons of the Visual Arts, who serve as volunteers to work the shop.

The art shop is closed on Mondays to set up new displays and is closed on university holidays.

Some of the artwork on display and for sale include paintings, prints, watercolors, drawings, ceramics, greeting cards, purses, rustic canes, felted items, jewelry, pottery, photography and woodworking. The work is juried before it is displayed.

Miller said it is important for people to support local artists, and she feels it is "equally important to recognize and put a spotlight on those who have wonderful God given art talents."

"Come on in and get a jump on your Christmas shopping, especially for those who have everything or the hard-to-shop-for person. Instead of getting that special someone something that will sit in a closet, get them something that will enrich not only their wall space but also their lives," Miller said.

Among the artists whose work is for sale are: Carolyn Ogden, Cora Renfro, Billie Sue Kibbons, Charlotte Humphress, Davie Reneau, Azucena "Susie" Trejo Williams, Linda J. Cundiff, Lana Carol Houk, Henrietta R. Scott, Jo Ann Harris, Cheryl Magers, Jaime Renfro, Renee Renfro, Larry Parker, Steve Flinchum, Hugh Leachman and Stan and Joan McKinney.
