LWC Volleyball defeats Georgetown in three-sets

The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team defeated Georgetown (KY) in a three-set Mid-South Conference battle on Monday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Senior Elly Burke recorded her ninth double-double of the season, notching 11 kills and 12 digs in her final home outing as a Blue Raider. Freshman Kasia Niderla trailed behind Burke with 10 kills of her own, add to an impressive offensive night for LWC. Freshman Camryn Rich finished with 24 assists while also adding eight digs on the night. On defense, sophomore Lauren Larzelere led the way with 14 digs.



Set one saw the Blue Raiders gain the upper hand early on, leading 16-9 at the first called timeout. Lindsey Wilson would never look back in the set, transitioning the lead into double-digits late which ended in an eventual 25-16 set one victory. Elly Burke led Lindsey Wilson on offense with five kills, while Rich recorded six assists. The Blue Raiders hit .147, while limiting the Tigers to a -.094 mark.

With their momentum shifting over into set two, the Blue Raiders gained an early 9-2 lead at the first called timeout. Lindsey Wilson continued to roll all the way late into the match, as the defense held Georgetown to just 12 points with five points remaining for the set victory. The controlled set two for LWC ended in a 25-17 set victory. Niderla recorded four kills, while Rich tallied five assists. On defense, the Blue Raiders notched eight total digs, led by Lauren Larzelere with three.

Attempting to force a fourth set to keep the match alive, the Tigers battled the Blue Raiders into an early 11-11 stalemate in set three. The set continued into a back and forth battle with the score reading 23-22 late in favor of LWC. Kills by Niderla and sophomore Alexis Smith finished the set off with a 25-23 set three victory, marking the 25th victory of the season for Lindsey Wilson. Niderla recorded five kills and Burke notched four in the set for LWC. Rich added 13 assists to the stat sheet, while Larzelere recorded nine digs in the match clinching set.

The Blue Raiders return to action at 6pmCT on Thursday, November 7th to face Thomas More (Ky.) on the road in the final match of the regular season.
