LWC Men's Basketball faces Iowa in exhibition tonight

By Brady Budke

The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team hits the road tonight in an exhibition matchup to face the University of Iowa at 7pmCT at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 1 Elliott Dr, Iowa City, IA.

In their last game, the Blue Raider men's basketball team defeated Martin Methodist (TN) by a final score of 77-59 on Saturday, November 2nd at Biggers Sports Center.

This season, the Blue Raiders are led in scoring by senior Reece Brooks who is averaging a Mid-South Conference-best 19.3 points per game, while also leading the team averaging 5.3 assists per game. In the last outing against the Redhawks, Brooks scored a team-high 24 points while chipping in a team-high six assists. Alongside Brooks, senior Malik Hart has played a large role on the floor for Lindsey Wilson, as he leads the team averaging 9.3 rebounds per game and 3.0 steals per game. Against Martin Methodist, Hart grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and notched a team-high three steals.

The Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball team returns to the floor after a 23-12 (10-10 Big Ten) record during the 2018-19 season which ended in an NCAA Tournament Round of 32 loss to Tennessee 83-77 in overtime.

The Hawkeyes return 12 players from last year's NCAA Tournament team but will be without two key players from the 2018-19 season in forward Tyler Cook and guard Isaiah Moss. Cook currently sits with the Canton Charge of the NBA G-League, leaving Iowa averaging a team-best 14.5 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game last season. As for Moss, he announced in June he was moving on from Iowa as a graduate transfer to Kansas to continue his collegiate career with the Jayhawks. Moss averaged 9.2 points per game last season.

Top returners from last season for the Hawkeyes include guard Jordan Bohannon, guard Joe Wieskamp, and forward Luka Garza. Bohannon averaged 11.6 points per game last season and was selected as Third Team All-Big Ten by Big Ten coaches. Bohannon also sits as the top 3-point shooter in Iowa school history. Wieskamp was selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman team by Big Ten coaches last season while averaging 11.1 points per game. Wieskamp tallied two double-digit scoring games in the NCAA Tournament last season, including a 19 point performance in the loss to Tennessee. Garza was selected as All-Big Ten Honorable Mention last season, averaging 13.1 points per game. Garza notched a team-high 20 points and seven rebounds in the NCAA tournament opening-round win over Cincinnati.

Live video and stats will be available for the game. The Blue Raiders are set to take on the Hawkeyes at 7pmCT at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
