Strong second half gives LWC men's basketball a 77-59 victory By Grace Blomstedt The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team defeated Martin Methodist 77-59 thanks to a strong second-half performance on Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center. The Blue Raiders outscored the RedHawks 45 -26 in the final 20 minutes. Three Blue Raiders (3-0) scored double-digit points. Reece Brooks finished with 24 points while Kel Stotts tallied 18 and Matthew Eldridge recorded 13of his own. Brooks also finished with a game-high six assists. Malik Hart was a strong defensive presence, grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds and three steals. Lindsey Wilson shot 45.8 percent from the floor while Martin Methodist (3-1) shot 41.0. LWC recorded only six turnovers while MMC tallied 18. Martin Methodist got on the scoreboard first with its first possession of the game, but Lindsey Wilson would also score on its initial possession. The Blue Raiders would go on a 12-2 run led by a pair of three-pointers by Kel Stotts. Martin Methodist responded with a 12-2 run of its own. This was eventually silenced by a Matthew Eldridge dunk to level the score at 16 with 11:15 remaining in the half. Both teams would exchange baskets for the remainder of the opening half. Reece Brooks kept Lindsey Wilson in the game by scoring 13 of his points in those 11 minutes, including a three-point buzzer-beater. The Blue Raiders trailed 33-32 entering the second-half. Lindsey Wilson was outrebounded by the RedHawks 25-17 in the half. Lindsey Wilson scored first in the second half with a basket by Stotts that would turn into a seven-point run giving the Blue Raiders a 39-33 lead. Martin Methodist would fight back and get within two points at 43-41 and 46-44 before Lindsey Wilson pulled away for good in the game. The Blue Raiders featured a balanced offensive effort for the final 10 minutes, allowing six players to score. Stotts accounted for eight of the points while Eldridge tallied seven and Ryan Friday accumulated six. Lindsey Wilson outscored the RedHawks 31-15 over the span.
