ACHS student designs chosen for National Christmas Trees

Adair student's ornaments will be on display on the "Kentucky" tree in Washington, DC through December, 2019.

By Cayce Davenport, ACHS Art Teacher

Adair County High School is one of 56 schools chosen to represent their state for a state themed tree - part of the America Celebrates display surrounding the National Christmas Tree.

The National Park Foundation states that they have funded the project and through a partnership with the National Park Service, the U.S. Department of Education worked with state art and education agencies to identify elementary, middle and high schools whose students would create the ornaments for the America Celebrates display.

Images were chosen by students from a wealth of Kentucky symbols, landmarks, historical figures, or events: State seal, Cardinal, Spotted Bass, Goldenrod, balloon race, Derby, Daniel Boone, Bluegrass music, My Old Kentucky Home, ect.

The globe ornaments were shipped to us, our students designed and hand painted all 24. They really took ownership of the project and have been super picky with quality and craftsmanship. I've enjoyed watching them with their ornaments and helping each other.

The ornaments will be on display on the "Kentucky" tree in Washington, DC through December.
