LWC men's soccer defeats Cumberlands on senior day By Christopher Coombs The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated Cumberlands (KY) 3-1 on senior day as they wrap up regular-season competition at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. The Blue Raiders (10-3-0, 6-1-1 MSC) outshot the Patriots (7-6-1, 3-3-0 MSC) 27-16 while also holding an 11-7 edge in shots on goal. Lindsey Wilson produced 11 shots, three on goal before scoring the match's first goal in the 34th minute. Akean Shackleford tallied his 13th goal of the season when Renan Ramos played one-off inside the 18-yard box. Just four minutes later LWC would double their advantage. Oscar Dueso got in behind Cumberlands defenders and produced a great individual effort. Dueso evaded three closing defenders and a charging goalkeeper to finish into an empty goal for the score. Dueso nearly scored his second of the game during the final minute of the half when he created two quality scoring chances. Breaking into the 18-yard box his first shot was blocked away by Clement May before gathering his own rebound and firing another shot just over the crossbar. Cumberlands would get one back late in the second half during the 81st minute when Alejandro Gonzalez headed one past David Coffey. Joel Drewery crossed a ball from the right sideline to the far post as he picked up the assist. Shackleford would put the game away in the 88th minute with a individual effort. Shackleford challenged his defender and created space before firing a shot into the left corner of the goal, just as he broke into the penalty area. Coffey finished the match with seven saves. Lindsey Wilson wrap up regular season play on Wednesday when they travel just down the road to take on Campbellsville (KY) at 7pmCT. This story was posted on 2019-10-27 19:43:44
