LWC Volleyball sweeps Park and William Woods By Christopher Coombs Columbia, MO - The No. 13-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team wrapped up the final day of competition at the Columbia College Fall Classic with 3-0 sweeps over William Woods (MO) and an upset of No. 6 Park (MO). The clean sweeps mark the 16th time this season the Blue Raiders (22-5) have gotten the job done in straight sets. LWC is now 3-3 versus ranked opponents. The win against Park (19-3) is the Blue Raiders first against an NAIA top-10 opponent since last season at the NAIA National Championship against Midland (NE). The Blue Raiders return to action on Thursday, October 24, 2019, when they resume Mid-South Conference action at Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY, in a match against Cumberland (TN). Lindsey Wilson - William Woods: 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-15) Lindsey Wilson picked up their second sweep of the tournament with their straight-set win over William Woods (14-15) on Saturday morning. The Blue Raiders racked up 35 kills in their 98 swings while committing just 16 errors. LWC hit .194 while limiting the Owls to just a .112 hitting percentage of their own. Kasia Niderla and Alexis Smith both recorded a match-high ten kills as Camryn Rich produced a double-double, finishing with 30 assists and 10 digs. Lauren Larzelere led the defensive efforts with 11 digs. Both squads would lead by as many as three points until finding themselves deadlocked a 10 in the first set. The Blue Raiders would regain the lead, pushing their advantage to as many as seven at 20-13. The Owls fought back to cut the Lindsey Wilson advantage to just one point at 23-22 but LWC managed the final two points to take the set. Lindsey Wilson would easily claim the second set as they led by as many as seven points three times before taking it 25-19. The Blue Raiders would never trail in the set. The final stanza was all LWC as they jumped out to an early 12-4 advantage before increasing their lead to as many as ten at 22-12. The squads traded the final points of the morning as LWC won 25-15. Lindsey Wilson - Park: 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) Lindsey Wilson produced 48 kills on a .288 hitting percentage while limiting the Pirates to a .114 hitting percentage and 37 kills. Niderla and Smith once again equaled each other in kills, both producing 15 for the match. Rich set up the offensive attack with her 41 kills as she added ten digs to produce her third straight double-double. It marks the sixth time she has produced a double-double this season. Larzelere finished with 20 digs. Tied at seven in the first set the Blue Raiders would take the lead and push it to as many as five points. Lindsey Wilson would maintain that advantage late in the set before winning 25-19. The second set featured seven ties, including 8-8 before LWC was able to put some distance between themselves and the Pirates. LWC would lead by as many as four points nine times until Park mounted a comeback, cutting the LWC lead to just one point at 23-22 late in the set. Jelena Lazovic and Niderla would record two straight kills to give the Blue Raiders the set and a 2-0 match lead. In what was the final stanza, Lindsey Wilson would trail for much of the set before leveling the score at 19.
