LWC Women's Soccer upset by Georgia Gwinnett on the road

By Christopher Coombs

Lawrenceville, GA - The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team was upset 1-0 by No. 16 Georgia Gwinnett on Friday evening in what was the Blue Raiders final non-conference matchup of the season.

In an evenly matched contest, the Grizzlies (11-4-1) would take home the victory with Kyara Armenta's goal in just the 19th minute. Hannah Martinelli played one into the 18 for Armenta who challenged her Blue Raider (9-3-1) counterpart one-on-one before finishing off the crossbar for the score.

The Blue Raiders nearly leveled the score with just three minutes to play when Ylwa Toernberg and Alicia Thoresen's recorded shots from inside the penalty area. The attempts were blocked away as GGC goalkeeper Elisa Randel preserved the clean sheet.

Lindsey Wilson held a slight 12-10 advantage in shots as Georgia Gwinnett and LWC each placed seven shots on target for the match. The Blue Raiders would manage to create seven corner kicks to the Grizzlies two but were unable to capitalize.

Eveljn Frigotto had six save in goal for LWC as seven different Blue Raiders would tally a shot on goal in the contest.

Lindsey Wilson is back on the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 22, when they return to Mid-South Conference action at 6pmCT against Life (Ga.).
