LWC volleyball headed to Columbia College Fall Classic

The 13th-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team travels this weekend to compete in the Columbia College Fall Classic in Columbia, Missouri on Friday and Saturday.

The Blue Raiders play two matches Friday and two Saturday. Lindsey Wilson is set to face (RV) Ottawa (KS) at 3pmCT on Friday and host No. 9-ranked Columbia (MO) that night at 7pmCT. On Saturday, the Blue Raiders face William Woods (MO) at 9amCT and then No. 6-ranked Park (MO) at 1pmCT to finish up the weekend of competition.

The Blue Raiders (19-4) are back in action after picking up a Mid-South Conference three-set win against Cumberlands (KY) Tuesday night. Lindsey Wilson posted seven service aces, five team blocks, and a .243 hitting percentage in the match.



Kasia Niderla continues to lead Lindsey Wilson offensively with 344 total kills, ranking 11th nationally, while also recording the top hitting percentage in the NAIA (.435). The Blue Raiders rank first in the MSC and 15th nationally in hitting percentage with .232. LWC's defense averages 17.25 digs per game, which ranks third in the Mid-South Conference. Lauren Larzelere averages 4.04 digs per game while Peyton Johnston and Elly Burke average more than three digs apiece.

The Blue Raiders meet the Braves of Ottawa (16-9) in their first match of the weekend. Ottawa enters the weekend ranking seventh in the NAIA in blocks per game (2.47). Makayla Aspegren leads the team with 113 total blocks which ranks fourth. The Braves are led offensively by Ayona Tharps with 317 kills and 3.34 per set and Allison Bauer with 516 assists. Ottawa has four players with triple-digit digs, led by Heather Huesman with 283.

Friday night marks the fifth matchup between the Blue Raiders and the Cougars as CC leads the series 3-1. Columbia (19-2) ranks fourth nationally in assists per game (12.89), fifth in hitting percentage (.254), and sixth in kills per game (13.74). Luisa Ferreira paces the offense from the setting position, ranking second in the NAIA by averaging 11.58 assists per game. The attack is led by Sidney Branson and Kiersten Anderson who have recorded 255 and 249 kills, respectively.

Lindsey Wilson faces off against William Woods (14-13), on the second day of competition. William Woods enters the weekend with a team hitting percentage of .182 and a total of 1159 kills. The Owls offense features six players with triple-digit kills, led by Nise Salima with 231 kills. William Woods has accumulated 220 blocks which ranks seventh nationally. Jaclyn Zahn leads the team's blocking effort with 103, ranking 12th in total blocks.

The Blue Raiders close out the weekend against the Pirates of Park (17-2). Park enters the Classic ranking fourth in the NAIA in digs per game (20.48) and fifth in blocks per game (2.54). Celina Monteiro controls the floor for the Pirates with 6.3 digs per game with ranks seventh. Nada Meawad has recorded 169 kills and averages 4.57 kills per game to lead Park's attack. Margherita Marconi and Jade Askren pace the offense from the setting position with 358 and 314 assists, respectively.

First serve for the Blue Raiders is scheduled for 3pmCT on Friday.
