LWC Soccer hosts Cumberland

The No. 5-ranked women's soccer team and No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team are in action against Mid-South Conference opponent Cumberland (TN) on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. The women's match is set to begin at 3pmCT, followed by the men's matchup at 5pmCT at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY.

The matches were originally scheduled for 5 and 7pmCT but were changed due to the chance of inclement weather.



The Blue Raiders women's soccer team (8-2-1, 4-0 MSC) return to action after a 7-0 victory over Pikeville (Ky.) on Friday afternoon. Emelie Liljered scored four times to ensure the victory for Lindsey Wilson.

The Blue Raiders have eight players who have scored at least one goal this season, while ten have recorded at least one assist. Sina Cavelti leads the Mid-South Conference in points per game (2.18) and is tied for the top spot in the conference in goals scored with 10. Cavelti is also tied with Thea Birgerud for the team-high in assists with four. Goalkeeper Eveljn Frigotto has earned three shutouts with 50 saves, which ranks fourth-best in the MSC.

The No.20-ranked Cumberland women's soccer team (11-2-1, 4-0 MSC) returns to action after defeating Shawnee State 8-2 on Saturday. The Phoenix have 12 players this season who have scored at least one goal, while 12 have posted at least one assist. Carla Hager and Marie Bathe pace the offense. Hager has scored a team-high 10 goals, tying Cavelti for the top spot in the conference, while tallying five assists. Bathe has scored eight goals of her own while posting a team-high 10 assists, which ranks sixth in the NAIA. Michaela Hawthorne has 48 saves while allowing seven goals and earning five shutouts. Cumberland has recorded seven shutouts so far this season, which ranks 12th nationally.

The Lindsey Wilson Men's soccer team (8-2, 4-0 MSC) defeated fellow MSC competitor Pikeville (Ky.) 1-0 on October 11. Akean Shackleford's goal in the 15th minute secured the conference victory for the Blue Raiders.

Shackleford leads Lindsey Wilson in points (28) with 12 goals and four assists in only eight games. He ranks second in the NAIA in shots per game (6.0), shots on goal per game (3.38), and goals per game (1.5). The Blue Raiders have 10 players who have scored at least one goal, while 11 have tallied at least one assist. Wendel Gabriel has a team-best six assists, followed by Bruno Henrique and Neville Morgan who each have five. Goalkeeper David Coffey has forced three shutouts while recording 27 saves and allowing only six goals so far this season.

The Cumberland men's soccer team (7-5, 2-2 MSC) was defeated by Shawnee State (Ohio) 1-0 on October 12. The Phoenix are led on offense by Tyler Watson and Martin Walsh with 22 and 20 points, respectively. Watson leads the team with nine goals this season while also recording four assists. Walsh has tallied a team-high eight assists while scoring six goals of his own. On defense, goalkeeper Nicklas Rulle has recorded 35 saves which sits fifth-best in the Mid-South Conference.
