LWC football hosts Cumberland in MSC battle Saturday

The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team hosts Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division opponent Cumberland (TN) on Saturday, October 12 at 1:30pmCT at Blue Raider Stadium, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY.

Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland meet for the eighth time, with the Phoenix leading the series 4-3. Cumberland upset the fourth-ranked Blue Raiders 24-21 at Nokes-Lasater Field during the 2018 season.



The Blue Raiders (5-0, 2-0 MSC) return home after an impressive 58-3 win over then No. 14-ranked Bethel (Tenn.). Lindsey Wilson posted 426 total offensive yards, 182 in the air and 244 on the ground.

Jaylen Boyd continues to be LWC's top rushing option and earned MSC Bluegrass Division offensive player of the week honors for his performance against the Wildcats. Boyd rushed for 115 yards on just nine carries while scoring a touchdown. Cameron Dukes threw for 153 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 57 yards and two additional touchdowns. Jay Gaudlock led the Blue Raiders with three receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown.

The Blue Raider defense tallied 71 tackles, 15 for a total loss of 57 yards. The defensive effort was led by Stevie Miller and Damani Jenkins with six tackles and 1and 1/2 for loss apiece. Miller and Mark Pruitt each recorded interceptions in the game.

Lindsey Wilson ranks fourth nationally in scoring offense per game with its 46.2 points while ranking fifth in total scoring offense (231). Jared Dougherty, the reigning MSC Bluegrass Division special team's player of the week, ranks second in scoring by kicking per game with an average of 10 points.

Lindsey Wilson's defense ranks 15th in the NAIA, allowing opponents to average only 99 rushing yards per game. Luke Bowman ranks second nationally for forced fumbles per game with .60 while leading the Blue Raiders in total tackles with 34.

The Phoenix (3-1, 1-0 MSC) travel to Blue Raider Stadium after falling to Keiser (Fla.) 38-26 on September 28. Cumberland recorded 259 yards of total offense compared to Keiser's 352.

On the season, the Phoenix's offensive game focuses heavily on the running game, averaging 210.5 rushing yards per game compared to 84.3 passing yards. Telvin Rucker leads the rushing force with 65 attempts and 61.8 yards per game average. Quarterback Joseph Rushin has accumulated 66 yards and five touchdowns on the rush while throwing for 337 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensively, Cumberland is led by Jon Carrothers with 26 total tackles. Jace Capps ranks 12th in the NAIA in sacks per game (1.2). Aaron White leads the team and ranks 15th nationally with an average of two tackles for loss per game while forcing a total of 40 lost yards.
