CPD: Drug trafficking arrest By Officer Adam Cravens Columbia Police Department On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, the Columbia Police Department executed an arrest warrant for drug trafficking after a lengthy and ongoing investigation. Kelvin Bowers, 32, of Columbia, was seen and apprehended at FiveStar on Hudson Street shortly before 5pmCT. He has been charged with Trafficking a controlled substance methamphetamine as well as wanton endangerment first degree; both felonies. The specific charges stem from an incident on October 2, 2019, when Bowers is believed to have been in possession of 57 grams of methamphetamine with intent to sell. He discarded the methamphetamine on a shelf at a local business and left the property when it is believed he became aware that law enforcement was in the area. Bowers is also currently on federal probation for a prior drug trafficking charge. Officer Evan Burton is the investigating and arresting officer. He was assisted at the time of the arrest by Officer Jordan Dean as well as Deputies Justin Cross and Josh Durbin. Bowers arrest however does not end further investigations which are still ongoing. The Columbia Police does continue to encourage the community to always notify authorities of any possible drug activity and, as always, reporting parties can remain anonymous. NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
