LWC Archery finishes third at 3D National Championships

By Chris Wells

Foley, AL - Lindsey Wilson archery earned the program's first-ever team podium at the USA Archery 3D National Championships this weekend.

The Blue Raiders achieved this milestone in just its second season as a collegiate program.

In addition to the team podium finish, Christa Nelson won an individual gold medal becoming the first Blue Raider archer to win a national title. Nelson, Britney McCarthy, and Makayla Potter along with Dalton Richardson, Taylor Bell, and T Sanchez won team golds to give the Blue Raiders two additional national championships.

Lindsey Wilson tallied 12 total medals during the two-day championship -- three gold medals, four silvers, and five bronze.

Nelson posted a score of 352 with a pair of 12s to capture the women's barebow national title.

Richardson, Bell, and Sanchez won gold in the men's mixed discipline while Nelson, McCarthy, and Potter won gold in the women's team barebow.

Four Blue Raider teams picked up silver medals over the two days.

Richardson, Ethan Johnson, and Austin Taylor finished second in the men's open compound while Bell, Evan Mahanna, and Chandler Wisdom earned runner-up honors in the men's bowhunter.

Nelson and Hunter Current posted a second-place finish in the mixed barebow and Ashlyn Scriven, Jessica Heady, and Casie Metcalf ended in second place in the mixed discipline.

Richardson along with four teams earned bronze medals.

Richardson and Johnson were part of a three-way tie for second in the men's compound. Following a tiebreaker, Richardson was awarded third place while Johnson picked up fourth.

The four teams to earn bronze medals include: Scriven, Nikki Bollman, and Abby Kaysinger (women's open compound), Bell, Mahanna, and Wisdom (men's bowhunter), Bell and Heady (mixed doubles bowhunter), and Sanchez and Metcalf (mixed doubles recurve).

The national championship concludes the 3D season. Lindsey Wilson archery now turns its attention to the indoor season. Indoor competitions are slated for mid-February in Madisonville, Ky.
