LWC Volleyball defeats Thomas More in four sets

The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team defeated Thomas More (Ky.) in a four-set Mid-South Conference battle on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Freshman Kasia Niderla led the Blue Raiders with 17 kills, while freshman Camryn Rich led the way with 18 assists. On defense, sophomore Lauren Larzelere managed 21 digs with senior Elly Burke recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 11 kills and 15 digs.



The Blue Raiders got off to a hot start in the first set, holding a 12-4 lead at the first timeout. Despite numerous attempts by the Saints to close the gap, Lindsey Wilson held a 17-7 lead at the second called timeout, and would eventually secure the set at 25-15. Alexis Smith led the Blue Raiders on offense with four kills, while Autumn Proctor and Rich combined for eight of the team's nine assists. The Blue Raiders hit .161, while limiting the Saints to a .036 mark.

The second set began in Thomas More's favor, as the Saints gained the early 14-9 advantage before being the first team to reach 20 points. A late surge by the Blue Raiders ultimately fell short, as the Saints would win a close set two 25-22. Niderla lead Lindsey Wilson with four kills, while Proctor and Rich combined for eight assists. On defense, Larzelere lead the Blue Raiders with four digs. Lindsey Wilson finished the set hitting .242 while Thomas More hit .471.

Set three started as a back and forth battle between the two teams attempting to gain the upper hand, with the Saints holding a close 12-10 lead early on. The set continued on with high intensity, which saw both teams tied at 23 all late. A block by the Blue Raiders and an error by Thomas More ended the set with a 25-23 Blue Raiders victory. Smith led the Blue Raiders with five kills, while Proctor led with six assists. On defense, Burke and Larzelere each recorded seven digs leading the way for Lindsey Wilson.

The fourth set went back and forth once again, as the match saw a tie at 12 all midway through. Lindsey Wilson began to distance themselves late, leading 20-16 with five points remaining to secure the match victory. Despite a last breath from the Saints, an error would end the match with a 25-21 set four victory for the Blue Raiders. Niderla lead the way on offense with seven kills in the set, while Larzelere had five digs. Lindsey Wilson finished the set hitting .209, while Thomas More hit .167.

The Blue Raiders return to action at 1pmCT on Saturday, October 5 to face Shawnee State at Biggers Sports Center in another Mid-South Conference battle.
