CU Women's Basketball one of 10 teams in The Classic

By Jordan Alves, sports information director

JACKSON, Tenn. -- For the fourth straight year, Campbellsville University Lady Tiger basketball is headed back to historic Oman Arena for the NAIA Women's Basketball Invitational hosted by the Southwest Tennessee Tourism Association.

Campbellsville is one of 10 teams in the round-robin tournament that was ranked in the final NAIA Top 25 Poll last season and will be a Top 10 team when the preseason polls are released in October.

The Lady Tigers, who have a 3-3 record in the NAIA Invitational, drew Mid America Nazarene University and Westmont College for the 2019 Classic.

CU will play Mid America Nazarene at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. local time in Jackson on Friday, Nov. 29. On Saturday, the Lady Tigers and Westmont face off at 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. local time.

Both games will air on the CU Sports Network with Matt Payton on the call.

"This will be without a doubt the strongest Classic in the country as many of these teams are expected to be in the Top 25 NAIA Women's Basketball Pre-Season rankings coming out in October," said media coordinator Dave McCulley. "This group includes past NAIA Women's Championship teams - Freed-Hardeman (2017) MidAmerica Nazarene (2016) and Vanguard University (2008)."

In addition to Campbellsville, the following teams will be joining the Lady Tigers - Shawnee State University, Vanguard University, Columbia College, Bethel University, Wayland Baptist University, Freed-Hardeman University, Mid America Nazarene University and Talladega College.

The meeting between the Lady Tigers and Westmont College Warriors is the second in the Classic as No. 2 Westmont won 59-50 in the 2016 edition.

CU and Mid America Nazarene are squaring off for the first time in the tournament, but the Lady Tigers have a 2-0 overall record against the Pioneers and both of those came in the 2014-15 season. CU won at home, 62-51, on Jan. 2, 2015 and then took down MNU in the NAIA Tournament, 52-45, on March 20.

Campbellsville is scheduled to open its season in McKenzie, Tenn. for the Chamber Classic against Dillard and Brescia University on Nov. 1-2.
