LWC Volleyball falls in 5 sets to Life University

The No. 10-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team was defeated by Life (Ga.) in a five-set Mid-South Conference battle tonight at Biggers Sports Center. Lindsey Wilson (9-4, 1-1 MSC) managed to build a 2-0 set lead in the match, but Life (9-2, 3-0 MSC) would claim the final three sets of the night to complete the upset.

Freshman Kasia Niderla led the Blue Raiders in kills with 17. Elly Burke recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 11 digs. Peyton Johnston accumulated a team high 23 digs as Camryn Rich lead the Blue Raiders in assists with 25.



The first set between the Blue Raiders and Running Eagles was a back and forth battle, as the match was tied 11-11 early. Although the Blue Raiders were able to make a run to take a 23-18 lead late, Life answered back thanks in part to three Mary Zimmerman kills to tie the set at 23. The Blue Raiders would close out the set with kills from Elly Burke and Kasia Niderla to win the set 25-23. The Blue Raiders hit .303, while the Running Eagles hit .282.

The second set was another back and forth battle, which included 15 ties. The match was tied 23-23 late, but the Blue Raiders would finish the set with an attack error from the Running Eagles and a kill from Alexis Smith to win 25-23. The Blue Raiders finished the set hitting .269 while allowing the Running Eagles to hit .218.

Lindsey Wilson fell behind early in set three, trailing 8-3. Despite a late push by the Blue Raiders, Life finished off the set with three straight points to win the set 25-19. The Running Eagles would level the match at 2-2 with a fourth set 25-23 victory as they hit .406 and tallied 16 kills to the Blue Raiders 12.

Life would complete the upset as they rolled in the final frame defeating the Blue Raiders 15-11 to take the match. .

With the loss, the Blue Raiders 49-match winning streak against Mid-South Conference foes comes to an end, along with the team's 74-match winning streak at home.

The Blue Raiders return to action at 6pmCT on Tuesday, September 17th, as they will face Indiana Southeast in New Albany, IN.
