LWC Volleyball sweeps Cumberlands in MSC road contest By Christopher Coombs Williamsburg, KY - The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team continued their strong start to the Mid-South Conference portion of their schedule as they were able to defeat Cumberlands (Ky.) 3-0 (32-30, 25-22, 25-23) on Tuesday night. The Blue Raiders have yet to drop a set in conference action. Lindsey Wilson (9-2, 3-0 MSC) held a slight hitting percentage edge at .218 compared to the Patriots .209. LWC finished the night with 56 total kills, 71 digs and three service aces to lead in all three statistical categories. Cumberlands did hold a large advantage in total blocks as they tallied 14 to Lindsey Wilsons two. Kasia Niderla continues to be a defensive nightmare for opposing defenses. She racked up a season and match-high 21 kills in the contest with just two errors to finish the night with a .613 hitting percentage. Alexis Smith was also busy offensively, recording a career-best 16 kills for the Blue Raiders. Defensively, four Lindsey Wilson student-athletes finished with double-digit digs as Peyton Johnston led all players with 18. Lauren Larzelere had 17, Abby Grubbs finished with 14 and Elly Burke had 10. Camryn Rich produced 21 assists while Autumn Proctor managed 18 of her own. The first set was a back-and-forth affair as Lindsey Wilson managed the largest lead of the set at just three points early in the action. After trading points to a 20-20 tie, the Patriots would take their largest lead of the set at two. The Blue Raiders would rattle off four straight points to force set point but Cumberlands was able to push extra points as LWC would win 32-30 win during the first set thriller. The second set was much of the same as neither team was able to get any separation. The battle featured 11 ties, all the way to 20-20 but the Blue Raiders would score five of the final seven points to take a 2-0 lead. Despite the close nature of the set LWC would only ever find themselves trailing once. Lindsey Wilson got off to a slow start in what would be the final set of the night. The Blue Raiders would trail by as many as three points multiple times until they leveled the score at 15. After trading the next four points, LWC took the lead for good at 18-17 before ultimately taking the set 25-23 and the match 3-0. The Blue Raiders return to the confines of Bigger Sports Center on Friday at 5pmCT when they take on MSC opponent Life (Ga.). The home match will be just the second of the season for LWC.
