Homecoming: LWC to celebrate 10 Seasons of LWC Football

Lindsey Wilson College will recognize a very special anniversary September 12-15 2019, during the college's homecoming celebration festivities.

The 116-year-old liberal arts college will celebrate ten seasons since the return of the LWC football program during the college's 88th homecoming. LWC football returned to Lindsey Wilson in the fall of 2010 after a 75-year absence.

"We are excited about partnering this special weekend with football," said LWC Director of Alumni Relations Hannah Peck. "The football team is held to a high standard of character and always represents the college well. Coach Oliver is not only coaching but teaching these young men how to behave as good citizens of the world. We are so proud of everything he has accomplished in a very short time."



The event-packed weekend will also feature a reunion for current and former members of the football program, as well as reunions for the wrestling program, the Bonners Scholars program and a 50-year reunion for the Class of 1969.

Six alumni and one longtime member of the LWC college faculty will be honored at the Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11amCT in the Cranmer Dining Center, Lindsey Wilson College, 430 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY. The four individuals to be honored are:

  • Valerie Murrell Adams '90 of Columbia, Ky., will receive the Distinguished Alumna Award;
  • Chris Wells '01 of Columbia, Ky., will receive the Distinguished Service Award;
  • Josh Conner '04 of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., will receive the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award;
  • Susan K. Minton of Columbia, Ky., will receive the Honorary Alumna Award.
The new members of the LWC Athletic Hall of Fame are: Amy Lankford '99 Jones from London, Ky., and Ronyeld Shirley '02 from Louisville, Ky., for women's basketball and Chris Lashley '92 from Buckner, Ky., for baseball.

The week of events kicks-off on Thursday, Sept. 12 with LWC men's soccer taking on John Brown University at 2pmCT and women's soccer taking on Spring Arbor University at 7pmCT. The matches will be held at Walter S. Reuling Stadium, 151 Holloway Drive, Columbia, KY. On Friday, the LWC Volleyball team plays Life University at 5pmCT in Biggers Sports Center, 360 Spickard Drive, Columbia, KY.

The Alumni & Friends Homecoming 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday morning, Septemer 14, at the Doris and Bob Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 399 Williams St., Columbia. Registration begins at 7:30amCT, and the race starts at 8amCT.

WAIN FM will serve-up free hamburgers and hot dogs at the Alumni Tailgate Zone before the game on Saturday at 12:30pmCT at Lindsey Wilson Sports Park - Egnew Park, Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY, next to the football field.

The crowning of the 2019 LWC homecoming king and queen will be held at halftime of the football game between LWC and Faulkner University at Blue Raider Stadium, Lindsey Wilson Sports Park, 820 Hanley Lane, Columbia. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30pmCT.

And an encore performance of Theatrefest! 2019 Summer Series production of Black Comedy will begin at 7pmCT on Saturday, Sept. 14 in V.P. Henry Auditorium, 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY.
