Mark Harris is new Columbia Police Chief

Mayor Curtis Hardwick's appointment of Columbia Police Officer Mark Harris as the new Police Chief was unanimously approved Monday night, April 7.

The popular 16 year veteran of the force took command today, April 8. He succeeds retiring Chief Edwin Taylor.

Harris will be officially sworn into office by Mayor Curtis Hardwick on Wednesday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m., according to City Clerk Jane Akin Keltner.

Harris won out in a field of applicants which included four other members of the Columbia Police Department : Terry Flatt, Justin Claywell, Jimmy Luttrell, and Richard Butler.

Council members present were Larry Marshall, Charles Grimsley, Jimmy Harper, Joe Feese, Louise Hutchison, and Joe Moore.
