Letter: Adair Schools enrollment question

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
Where does the total number of students fit, historically speaking? Are the numbers increasing, decreasing or remaining relatively static? --BJF
Thanks for writing. We got the following information from Robbie Harmon, Dean of Students/Director of Pupil Personnel at Adair County Schools. It looks like enrollment has been fairly stable over the last 7 years, with a peak occurring in the 2014-2015 school year.
  • 2019-20 School Year: 2,606 students
  • 2018-19 School Year: 2,580 students
  • 2017-18 School Year: 2,615 students
  • 2016-17 School Year: 2,594 students
  • 2015-16 School Year: 2,668 students
  • 2014-15 School Year: 2,712 students
  • 2013-14 School Year: 2,601 students
Robbie says the numbers do not include preschool students, but do include K-12 students on the main campus plus enrollments at Adair Learning Academy inside Adair Youth Development.

We've asked him about recent previous decades for comparison, and we'll update if the information can be tracked down. We did find in an old issue of the Adair County News that enrollment in the 1960's was as much as 2,998 when Wallace Coomer was Superintendent (1966).
