LWC volleyball headed to the MSC Crossover Challenge

By Grace Blomstedt

The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team hits the road this weekend to take part in the Mid-South Conference Crossover Challenge in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The Blue Raiders (1-0) are coming off their home season-opener against Asbury (Ky.) on Tuesday. Due to a slow start, Lindsey Wilson ended the night hitting .138 percent, but by the fourth-set they appeared more settled and boasted a .429 hitting percentage in the set.

Elly Burke led the team with 14 kills while Kasia Niderla accounted for eight total blocks. The defensive duo of Lauren Larzelere and Peyton Johnston recorded 13 digs apiece.

Lindsey Wilson plays two matches on Friday and two matches on Saturday. The Blue Raiders are set to face a couple of Georgia schools, Point and Reinhardt, at 2:30pmCT and 7:30 p.m. CT., respectively. On Saturday, Lindsey Wilson faces Loyola (La.) at 12pmCT and Union (Ky.) at 5 p.m. CT. All of the matches take place at Ephram White Gym.

Point (1-0) enters the match with a three set win under their belt against Brewton-Parker (Ga.). The Skyhawks garnered 27 kills, 10 players recording at least a single kill. Park's defense held Brewton-Parker to a hitting percentage of .000 with their 35 digs and two blocks.

Reinhardt opens their 2019 season playing Mid-South competitor Cumberland (Tenn.) before facing Lindsey Wilson on Friday. The Eagles return with 12 players from last season's roster after a 35-8 record and an NAIA National Championship Tournament appearance.

Loyola (1-3) faces three competitors before meeting LWC on Saturday. They opened their season last weekend at the Early Bird Invitational in New Orleans, Louisiana. Entering this weekend, the Wolves have 464 attack attempts, 118 kills paired with 98 hitting errors.

Union opens up their 2019 season at the MSC Crossover Challenge after an 18-19 record in 2018. The Bulldogs return nine student-athletes from the 2018 team.
