Green River Animal Shelter receives $1K grant

By Mackenzie Miller

Lexington, KY - The Kentucky Cattlemen's Foundation awarded the Green River Animal Shelter with a $1,000 grant from the Animal Shelter Assistance program on Tuesday.

The Green River Animal Shelter plans on using this grant to repair doors and drywall.

"This will really help with the repairs that need to be done to our building," said Roger Firkins, Green River Animal Shelter.

Gale Cowan, Adair County Judge Executive, praised the local and state Cattlemen's Associations: "I want to thank the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association as well as the Adair County's local Cattlemen's Association for the help in obtaining the $1,000 grant for the Animal Shelter. There are several repairs that need to be done at the shelter and this will help out with those. The shelter is always in need of cleaning supplies, animal food, and cat litter."

The Animal Shelter Assistance program is in its ninth year and was funded by the Kentucky Cattlemen's Foundation.

Foundation Chairman, Mike Bach recognizes the important role animal shelters serve in our communities and encourages everyone to get involved at the local level. Donations to national organizations do not go back and directly benefit these animals. "Find out who your local shelter is and how you can help" stated Bach, "All cattlemen understand the need to take care of our animals and it is nice to support others who are doing the same thing."

If you would like to make a donation to the Green River Animal Shelter, please call (270) 385-9655. They are always in need of cleaning supplies, and any support from the community.

The Animal Shelter Assistance program received 21 applications from across the state and plans to continue the program in the future.
