Controversial New Perspective on Jesse James

The New York Times is running a review of T.J. Stiles' new book "Jesse James: Last Rebel of the Civil War."

According to the Times review, "Mr. Stiles presents James as a Confederate terrorist caught up in the wild political turbulence of his times."

Stiles' book offers a wholly different perspective on this area's favorite outlaw, framing his actions against the backdrop of the Civil War, and differing dramatically from the well-accepted notion of James as a gregarious Robin Hood of the 1800's.

NOTE: Registration is required to view content on the NYTimes site, but accounts are free, and well worth the time it takes to fill out the quick form.
