William Douglas Merritt, 64, Nashville, TN (1954-2019) Doug had a passion for helping others, and never met a stranger he couldn't make laugh. He was an avid coffee drinker and a die-hard University of Kentucky fan. His quick wit, kind and compassionate spirit, and infectious smile will be sorely missed. It is with great sadness that the family of William Douglas "Doug" Merritt announces his passing after a long-term illness on Friday, June 7, 2019, at the age of 64. A private service will be held for family members only. Doug was born on December 18, 1954 in Taylor County, Kentucky, son of the late William A. and Marcene Tedder Merritt. He was a graduate of Adair County High School. Doug had a passion for helping others, and never met a stranger he couldn't make laugh. He was an avid coffee drinker and a die-hard University of Kentucky fan. His quick wit, kind and compassionate spirit, and infectious smile will be sorely missed. He is survived by an aunt and uncle, Viola and Scotty Ferguson, among others. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older sister, Beverly Dee Merritt; and his younger sister, Marietta. He is survived by his two daughters, Ashley (Seth) Mefford and Kristen (Jeramy) Campbell; his three grandchildren, Luis, Easton and Layla; his two sisters, Freeda Hannah and Carol Edwards; and his two nephews, Victor and Scott Edwards.
