Fiscal Court awarded $386k for critical pavement improvements By Amber Hale During Tuesday's Adair County Fiscal Court meeting, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) Secretary Greg Thomas announced $386,875 in discretionary funds for vital resurfacing work on four roads. Resurfacing repairs address existing surface cracks, potholes, raveling, and base failures. The investment supports Governor Matt Bevin's commitment to prioritize transportation infrastructure projects and increase economic opportunity across the Commonwealth. Resurfacing work will address:
"I would like to thank Governor Bevin, Secretary Thomas, and all of the Kentucky Transportation staff for the hard work they put into making sure Adair County roads were considered for this funding," said Judge-Executive Cowan. "Upkeep of county roads is an issue every Kentucky county faces and we are very grateful and honored to receive this funding." "The Bevin Administration continues to focus on taking care of what we have at both the state and local level to address critical infrastructure needs that improve safety and support job creation and retention," said KYTC Secretary Greg Thomas. "This funding builds upon existing transportation investments and allows the Cabinet to collaborate with local governments to identify projects that will have large impacts to communities." Projects submitted to the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid for discretionary fund consideration were evaluated by KYTC district staff to assess the condition of roads and determine the most critical needs based on factors such as safety, economic impact, and traffic volumes. "Roadway maintenance and repair is necessary to help ensure the safety and mobility of Kentucky drivers," said Sen. Max Wise. "I'm thankful the Governor and the Transportation Cabinet included Adair County roads in their resurfacing plans." The roads set to be addressed provide access to more than 75 homes, three churches, two cemeteries and multiple side roads. "This significant infrastructure investment, which comes from money allocated in the 2018 road plan, is proof that the needs of our rural roads are a priority in Frankfort," said Majority Floor Leader and Adair County Rep. Bam Carney. "We absolutely have to improve and maintain our rural infrastructure, and I'm grateful to the Transportation Cabinet for sharing my commitment to making these key investments."
