Letter: Dead rat means cats in danger of poison By Joyce M. Coomer There was a dead rat in our yard this morning. I don't think any of my cats caught the rat as there were no marks on it nor was its fur disturbed in any way. I am afraid a neighbor has put out rat poison. Since I have ten excellent mousers, now I am going to be constantly worried that one of my cats will catch and eat a mouse (or rat) that been poisoned, and be poisoned in turn and die. Please, please, please don't put out poison for rodent control when you know your neighbors have cats they love. Put out traps (where the cats can't get into them, of course) and feed and pet the neighbors' cats (and yours also, if you have any) so that they'll catch mice and rats as a "thank you" for being kind to them.
