City of Columbia activity report for May, 2019

Previous month's activity report provided at City Council meeting June 3, 2019

Work continues on pressure washing of the square.

Drainage issues: Smith Street, Scott Street, Green Hills, Mack Street, Lee Street, Adair Avenue.

Mowing of right of ways.

Fix curb on Willis Street (water issue).



Pot holes: Jessie Street, parking lot.

Mowed welcome signs.

Over 50 letters have been written in reference to nuisiance ordinance. (50-75% of property is owned by someone out of town).

The city street department participated in the waste tire activity; and, took around 20 tires.

Landscaping timbers have been placed at the city park.

The block, light switch, and door jam were repaired at the Trabue Russell House.

Flag poles are up at city hall and the Trabue Russell House.

Old timbers pulled up at city park; and, mowing completed. Light replaced.

Landscaping at city hall being cleaned out.

Fountain cleaned on the square.

The water/sewer company has the following repairs: Campbellsville Road, Hurt Street, Clinton Street, Tutt Street, Page Street, Fortune Street, Merchant Street, Campbellsville Street (off of square), West Page, and Jamestown Street.

We have pressure washed the walls in front of all Shrader building and in front of State Farm.

Lots of vacant lots mowed (and, several reported).

Sand delivered to city park for playground equipment.

Working on area around the building; some new flowers by flagpole and some shrubbery out front.

Some stripping done last weekend on public square.

We have talked with the state transportation department and they are looking at two intersections through the Highway Safety Improvement Program. (one of these is the Burkesville Street concern).

We are having a Food Truck Day on July 12. Proceeds going to playground equipment.

The public works department has straightened close to 100 street signs in the last three months.

Doing some patching on streets in the alleys off of square and water works street.

Tour 120 held at Trabue Russell House. Thanks to Vonnie for all her hard work.

Windows falling out of building on the square

The City of Columbia cleans up broken glass when windows fall out, as they have in this instance, and the Mayor says she is in conversations about next steps for the owner to do repairs and/or for entering the condemnation process if action is not taken.

New clock in City Council meeting room

Council Members June Parson and Dr. Ronald Rogers are seated in front of the new time piece on the wall of the City Council meeting room in Columbia. The one it replaces had to be retired as it kept loosing time between meetings, requiring everyone to get out their cell phones to check for the exact 6pm start time each month. First Monday meetings are open to the public and citizen comment time is the first item on the agenda.
