Snake hunting at Rock Lick Creek By Linda Waggener Case and Colton, 7-year-old second graders, were with their grandmother building up their strength with a good breakfast at the FM2 Hungry Kids Cafe last Saturday so they could go for another day of snake hunting down on At Rock Lick Creek. Case introduced himself as the Snake Hunter. They'd hunted on the Jay and Ida Wheeler family farm in the Chance community of Adair County and had seen a black snake, a red one and a light brown one. The boys wanted to head right back to hunt more after breakfast. Case says, "If a snake has a triangular head, it's poisonous, if it has a U shaped head, it's non-poisonous." GranGran Patricia Wheeler said she didn't know if she'd take the boys back again soon or not, even though they were insisting. She said her home region of Adair County is known as Copperhead snake country. She says when you drive a motorized vehicle, snakes will head toward the heat of the motor. She still shivers remembering pulling in on four-wheelers, shutting off the motors and "seeing them coming towards us from all directions." GranGran said, "Case will be known as "Snake Hunter instead of turtle man." Her grandsons are the twins of Keisha and Kevin VanArsdale. The Cafe is closed this Saturday and next, June 1 and 8, for vacation and then will reopen for the rest of the FM2 season. We hope to see the twins again after that for another snake hunting update - will the twins or will they not get to do more snake hunting? We'll keep you posted.
