LWC Softball closes season with a 2-0 loss in NAIA World Series By Chris Wells Springfield, MO - Lindsey Wilson softball's season came to an end today, falling 2-0 to No. 1-ranked Science & Arts of Oklahoma in the NAIA World Series at Killian Softball Stadium. The No. 5 Blue Raiders close out their season with a 52-5 record. Science & Arts -- the tournament's top seed and defending national champions -- advances to face the winner of second-seeded Marian (Ind.) and eighth-seeded Georgia Gwinnett on Tuesday. For the first time this season, Lindsey Wilson failed to score in a game. Science & Arts' Emily Cerny also limited the Blue Raiders to a season-low one hit while improving to 28-3 on the season in the center circle. Jaydee Boursaw provided the lone hit in the game for the Blue Raiders -- a sixth-inning single. Lindsey Wilson was able to get base runners, but could never come up with the big hit on a day where the winds blew in at 15-20 mph. Cerny forced the Blue Raiders -- who ranked second in the NAIA in home runs per game -- into 10 pop or fly outs during the game. The Drovers (58-3) scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. USAO took advantage of a pair of walks to open the inning as both free passes scored on Kristen Prieto's two-run double. The double was one of three hits allowed by Annabelle Ramirez -- who had another outstanding outing in the hard-luck loss. Ramirez allowed both runs while striking out seven against a Drover offense that averages over 7-1/2 runs per game on the season. She ends the season with a 19-3 record. Lindsey Wilson's best chance to score came in the top of the fifth inning. Samantha Luckett and Desiree Chang each worked walks to put runners on first and second with one out. Cerny pitched out of the jam with a strikeout and a line-out to first base to end the threat. She ended the complete-game, one-hit effort with five strikeouts and five walks. Lindsey Wilson finished the game stranding six baserunners. Lindsey Wilson finishes one win shy of matching the 2015 Blue Raiders for the most wins in a single season. This year's Blue Raiders set a program record for the best single-season winning percentage, winning 91.2 percent of their games. Four Lindsey Wilson seniors' collegiate careers come to an end today -- Luckett, Amber Hancock, Lauren Lett, and Callum Pilgrim. The quartet helped Lindsey Wilson to a 178-48 record in four seasons while winning two Mid-South Conference regular-season titles, one MSC Tournament championship, four appearances in the NAIA National Tournament and one NAIA World Series berth.
