LWC at day two of NAIA Outdoor National Championship By Christopher Coombs Gulf Shores, AL - Three individuals and the men's 4x400 meter relay qualified for the finals of their respective events during Friday's competition at the 2019 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships held at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium. Kevin Hallmon, Alexia DeHaven-Boyd, Safia Bright and the 4x400 meter relay team all managed to finish in the top-eight of their respective individual events to advance to tomorrow's championship finals in the process. On the women's side of the 100-meter dash preliminaries, Bright raced her way into Saturday's finals with a fourth-place finish. She crossed the finish line in 11.61 seconds. The 100-meter final is slated for 3:50pmCT on Saturday. Hallmon qualified for the 100-meter dash finals with a top-place finish in today's preliminaries. He ran the 100 meters in 10.34 seconds to set the pace as he heads to the championship race scheduled for tomorrow at 4 p.m. CT. Holt Keeling also competed in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 19th place with a time of 10.74 seconds. In the 400 meter run, DeHaven-Boyd would mark the Blue Raiders third and final individual championship qualifier. She raced to a time of 56.49 seconds and would finish second place during the third heat of the preliminaries to earn the championship nod. Bright also competed, finishing in 22nd with a time of 1:01.56. The Lindsey Wilson men's 4x400 relay team of Keeling, Devon Hall, Jaylun Wallace and Christian Whitehead finished in eighth place of the prelims to claim the final spot in Saturday's championship that is the final race of the day at 6:25 p.m. CT. The quartet crossed the finish line in 3:14.19. Jaylon Wallace would take to the track for the men's 400-meter race as he finished in 26th place in the trial with a time of 49.87 seconds. Paige Pettell, Tatiana Williams, Oreatha Hurt and Michael Redmon all competed in the field events for the Blue Raiders. Pettell kicked off day two by competing in the women's shot put where she turned in a 16th place finish with a 12.95-meter distance during her first attempt. Michael Redmon would take part in the men's long jump posting his longest distance of 6.78 meters during his third attempt. Hurt and Williams competed in the women's triple jump finals as they finished in 36th and 37th, respectively. Hurt leaped 10.58 meters as Williams went 10.51 meters. Multiple Blue Raiders are scheduled to compete tomorrow in the championship finals of their respective events scheduled to start at 1pmCT and run throughout the day.
