Authorities identify body found in 1986 in McCreary Co.

In November 1986, a body was discovered in Strunk, a small Kentucky coal town in Daniel Boone National Forest near the Tennessee border. Authorities attempted to identify the body and pursued several leads, but the case eventually went cold without anyone finding out who the victim was.

Nearly 33 years later, Kentucky State Police announced Thursday they are able to identify the body as belonging to a man from Norfolk, Virginia. Gerald Swindell was 29 years old when he went missing from Norfolk, according to a Kentucky State Police news release.
