Bevin vs. Beshear race is already negative By Phillip M. Bailey, Louisville Courier Journal The day after the 2019 Kentucky primary, voters were already being bombarded with TV attack ads aimed at bringing down Republican incumbent Matt Bevin and Democratic challenger Andy Beshear. The early jockeying shows the next six months will be defined as much by rapid-fire accusations of corruption between the two men as pension reform, abortion rights or legalizing medical marijuana. "Bevin and Beshear have a powerful rivalry that guarantees the election will be nasty," said Stephen Voss, a University of Kentucky political science professor.
