School Board May meeting is positive and brief By Linda Waggener The Adair County School Board Met May 21, 2019 with just a few days to go before commencement and the close of the spring semester. Seniors receive awards in the ceremony scheduled for Thursday evening, May 23, 2019 at 7pmCT at the ACHS gymnasium. Commencement Will be held Friday evening, May 24, 2019 at 7pmCT at the ACHS gymnasium. The meeting began with students participating in the opening session. Special Education students under the direction of Anita Goode, Director, were the stars of the May meeting. Baylor Karnes, Kaleb Butler, Will Shepherd and Matthew Alatorre gave enthusiastic leadership of the Pledge to the Flag. Fourth grader Matthew Alatorre demonstrated his knowledge of geography, using an interactive world map on the big screen. To the delight and astonishment of everyone, random requests from Board members to see specific places were identified by Matthew immediately. He not only located the country requested, he gave a bit of information unique to that location. Superintendent Stephens announced that new agreements have been reached with both city and county so that each of the four schools will continue to have its own School Resource Officer in the 2019-2020 academic year. The school system will contribute $8,298 for each officer. The county, Which provides one SRO, will receive that amount. The city, which provides 3 SROs, will receive three times that amount. Contracts were provided to explain in detail. The Adair County School Board meets at 6pmCT, each third Thursday, at the Board Conference Room, lower level, 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Adair County Board of Education Members are: Terry Harvey (Division 1); Daniel Adams (Division 2), Lisa Burton, (Division 3), Jonathan Gaskins (Division 4); and Troy Grider (Division 5). Superintendent, Dr. Pamela Stephens; School Board Attorney, Jeff Hoover; Academic Dean/Instructional Supervisor, Phyllis Curry; Dean of Students/Director of Pupil Personnel, Robbie Harmon; Special Education Director, Anita Goode; Title 1 Coordinator, John Shelley III; Technology Coordinator, Carla Perkins; Technology Network Coordinator, Jason Rector; Transportation Director & Maintenance Director, David Jones; Director of Federal Programs, Steve Turner; Food Services Director, Carol Roy; Finance Officer, Renae Smith; Board Secretary and Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent, Becky Bailey.
