LWC Track & Field to compete at NAIA Championships Thursday

The Lindsey Wilson track & field team begins competition at the 68th annual Men's and 39th annual Women's NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Thursday at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium, 18999 Oak Rd W, Gulf Shores, AL.

Lindsey Wilson is sending 15 total student-athletes to the three-day competition, eight from the men's team and seven qualifiers for the women's team, to participant in 17 events at the championships.


Christian Davis, Pierre Ezanno, Devon Hall, Kevin Hallmon, Holt Keeling, Michael Redmon, Jaylun Wallace and Christian Whitehead will represent the men's team, while Safia Bright, Alexia DeHaven-Boyd, Annesha Harris, Oreatha Hurt, Marie Ninamou, Paige Pettell and Tatiana Williams account for the women's qualifiers.

Pettell starts off competition for LWC on Thursday in the women's hammer throw final. She is seeded 25th in the event. The Blue Raiders take to the track starting at 2:30pmCT with the 4x100-meter relay trials. Bright, DeHaven-Boyd, Harris and Ninamou posted the seventh-fastest qualifying time during the regular season for the women's team, while the men's team will be represented by a combination of Keeling, Whitehead, Hallmon, Davis and Ezanno after posting the fourth-fastest time in the NAIA this season. Both squads hope to advance to the championship finals on Saturday starting at 2:40 p.m. CT.

LWC is slated to compete in four-consecutive track events starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday. DeHaven-Boyd starts the string of events in the 400-meter hurdle trials after qualifying in 14th. Whitehead follows for the men in the 400 hurdle trials with the 21st fastest qualifying time. Bright, Hallmon and Keeling follow in the women and men's 200-meter dash trials. Bright was the 2nd-best qualifier as Hallmon turner in the fastest time this season and Keeling is seeded 17th. The Blue Raiders are all hoping to qualify for their respective championship finals on Saturday.

Harris and Williams -- seeded 12th and 27th, respectively -- compete in the final event of the day for LWC at 5:30pmCT in the women's long jump final.

Friday begins with Pettell and Ezanno starting things off with the women's shot put and men's long jump at 1 p.m. Pettell had the 5th-best distance in the NAIA this season while Ezanno had the 15th-best in his event.

Bright, Hallmon and Keeling are back for the 100-meter trials at 2:50 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. Bright had the 9th-quickest time as Hallmon had the fourth-best and Keeling the 17th best time in the NAIA this year. Bright and Dehaven-Boyd then take part in the women's 400-meter trials as Jaylon Wallace competes on the men's side. Bright is seeded No. 5 as Dehaven-Boyd is No. 14 and Wallace is No. 27 in the field.

Hurt and Williams then compete in the women's triple jump at 5:30 p.m. as they qualified with the 17th and 34th farthest distances this season, respectively.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of a combination of Whitehead, Wallace, Keeling, Hall, Hallmon, Ezanno and Redmon wraps up day two for LWC as they are set for 8:15 p.m. start. The squad had the 9th-best time this year.

Ezanno opens Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the triple jump final as he qualified 5th in the event.

The remaining track finals take place throughout the day on Saturday starting at 2 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony at the conclusion of all the events. The top eight athletes in each event score team points and earn All-American honors.
