Blinkhorn tied for 15th after 1st round of NAIA National Championship By Christopher Coombs Mesa, AZ - Callum Blinkhorn carded a 3-over par 74 during the first round of competition at the 2019 NAIA Men's Golf National Championships being played at Las Sendas Golf Club. He currently sits in a tie for 15th place in the field of 156 competitors at the par-71, 6,925-yard course after battling strong windy conditions all day. Action in the first round was suspended as the last few pairings were unable to finish play due to darkness falling. Tee times for tomorrow's second round will be adjusted to allow for the remaining golfers to finish their first 18-holes before the start of the second round. Blinkhorn was two-over-par through three holes after starting his day on the back nine. He would then get one stroke back when he birdied the par-4, 424-yard 13th hole before getting to even par with another birdie, this one on the par-5, 591-yard 15th hole. He made the turn in a tie for fifth place and one stroke off the leaders who were at 1-under par. The sophomore from Culcheth, England birdied for the final time of his round on the first hole of his second nine, before two bogeys and a double over his final eight holes pushed his round to three strokes over par with a 74. Ben Hadden of Kansas Wesleyan is currently in the lead at 2-under par but he still has three holes to play in his first round. Texas Wesleyan leads the team standings at 9-over par. Blinkhorn who is competing at the championship as an individual is scheduled to tee off in the second round at 2:10pmCT on Wednesday but could be adjusted due to the first round being incomplete.
