Smoke on the Mountain at HGR, Sat 25 May

Update: The Saturday, May 25, 2019 performance at Homeplace on Green River has been cancelled.

By George Kolbenschlag

They are back. The stage at the show barn at Homeplace on Green River will come alive again on Saturday, May 25, 2019, with the return of the Sanders family in Smoke on the Mountain. Y'all come out to look in on them and Pastor Oglethorpe as they replay their lively Gospel music in the sanctuary of the Mount Pleasant, North Carolina Baptist Church on that Saturday night in June 1938.

The dinner will be served beginning at 5pmCT/6pmET and the show begins at 6pmCT/7pmET. Space is limited so make your reservations early by calling or e-mailing Phil Hanna at (270) 384-2894 or cphanna51@msn.com. Tickets for Smoke on the Mountain are $20 for the show and fish dinner or $10 for just the show.

The family of six sing and give their testimonials through a happy evening of music and good fun. It's a respectable musical comedy that is one of the most often produced shows world-wide. The evening will include a fish dinner prepared by the Columbia First Baptist Church.

This will be the third time Smoke on the Mountain has been performed as part of Homeplace on Green River's Shakespeare in the Barn series. Smoke on the Mountain and the fish dinner were highly praised by the many who attended the two performances this past summer. The Homeplace Board is pleased that Lindsey Wilson Director of Theater offered to bring the show back May 25. It's a spirited show, and the audience laughed and sang along with the cast.

The play is directed by Lindsey Wilson College's Assistant Professor of Theater Robert Brock with music direction by Associate Artistic Director Jeremy Cloyd. The performers are students from Lindsey Wilson's theater program and the community at large.

Songs you will hear at the Smoke on the Mountain performance:
  • I'll Fly Away
  • The Church in the Wildwood
  • Built on the Rock
  • Wonderful Time up There
  • No Tears in Heaven
  • Christian Cowboy
  • I'll Never Die
  • Jesus Is Mine
  • Blood Medley
  • I'll Live Again
  • I Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now
  • Angel Band
  • Bringing In the Sheaves
  • Whispering Hope
  • I'm Using My Bible for a Road Map
  • I'll Walk Every Step of the Way
  • I'm Taking a Flight
  • Smoke on the Mountain
  • When the Roll Is Called up Yonder
