Flags to Half-Staff for Peace Officers Memorial Day By Nicole Burton Frankfort, KY - In accordance with the proclamation by President Donald J. Trump, both American and state flags at public office buildings will be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day. "Law enforcement officers protect and serve the lives in their communities; they are often the heroes among us," said Gov. Matt Bevin. "There is no greater sacrifice than that of a person willing to lay down their life for another, and we are deeply grateful for those who have served and sacrificed so much on our behalf." All individuals, businesses, organizations, and government agencies are encouraged to join in this tribute of lowering the flag in honor of local, state, and federal peace officers who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.
