Luckett, Ramirez lift Lindsey Softball to a 2-1 win By Chris Wells Samanta Luckett hit a pair of home runs and Annabelle Ramirez hurled a complete game in a 2-1 eight-inning win over Saint Xavier (IL) today at the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round Columbia, KY Bracket at Marilyn D. Sparks Park. The top-seeded Blue Raiders (47-2) advance to the winner's bracket finals to face third-seeded Grand View (IA) at 11amCT on Tuesday. Fourth-seeded Saint Xavier (44-11) faces second-seeded USC Beaufort (SC) at 1:30pmCT on Tuesday in the first elimination game of the day. Ramirez allowed just one run on four hits while striking out eight in her eight innings of work. She improves to 16-0 on the season with the win. While Ramirez was dealing in the circle, Luckett blasted a pair of solo home runs to propel the Blue Raider offense. Luckett nudged the Blue Raiders in front in the top of the fifth inning with her 10th home run of the season over the right-field fence on a 1-2 pitch to give Lindsey Wilson the 1-0 lead. The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Tori Keilman led off the inning with a walk and scored on Lyda Robinson's two-out double to left-center to tie the game at 1-1. Ramirez pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh, forcing a pair of pop-ups with a runner on second base to force extras. In nearly a carbon copy of the fifth, Luckett cleared the right-field fence again, this time with a no-doubter to lead off the eighth. She finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs in the win. Ramirez -- who retired the side in order four times during the game -- once again showed why she was named Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Year. After giving up a leadoff single, Ramirez retired the next three batters, including the last on her eighth strikeout of the game. St. Xavier's Allison Golic suffered the hard-luck loss. She too pitched all eight innings while giving up the two runs on five hits. Golic -- who falls to 13-4 on the season -- struck out nine Lindsey Wilson batters in the game. Grand View (41-11) defeated USC Beaufort (44-11) 10-2 in today's first game to remain in the winner's bracket of the double-elimination tournament. First pitch for the Lindsey Wilson-Grand View game is slated for 11amCT. This story was posted on 2019-05-13 20:44:59
