CPD: Accident report leads to arrest

Columbia Police Department Officers responded to a report of a possible car accident near the Lindsey Wilson College campus on the night of Wednesday, May 8, 2019, shortly after 10pmCT.

A vehicle matching the initial description was located on Lindsey's campus. A person located outside the vehicle, but in its vicinity, was briefly spoken to by responding Officers and found to be under the influence.

Kemet Rufus, 25, of Columbia was placed under arrested for Public Intoxication Excluding Alcohol, Prescription not in Original Container, and Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Offense (Opiates), a Class D Felony.


Officer John Dial was the arresting officer. He was assisted by Officer Drew Conn.


NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.
